Hi Marina

We are using online IRATs in a large engineering course (900 students). We have the iRAT questions embedded in weekly videos (about 12 minutes of video a week). The videos and questions are built using Articulate software and connected to Canvas gradebook using SCORM.

tRAT are done in class with scratch cards (4 sections – 35 to 45 teams per section)

We use iRAT questions that are different then tRAT questions

The online iRAT questions are mostly simple retrieval practice questions (we typical have about 10 questions in a 12 minute video)

Being retrieval practice question, if student look things up – fine – it is just retrieval practice

The in-class tRAT questions are higher level often at application level – we typically do 6 questions with a timed PowerPoint – teams get 90 seconds per question there is a little timer in corner of slide then it auto-advances to next one…so tRAT is done in about 9 minutes

Subject: info on i-RAT

Hello,

I'm studying TBL and preparing lessons for the next semester, in which I will start with TBL in my Analytical Chemistry course (bachelor's degree in Chemistry, second year).

I'd like to ask you about your experience with i-RAT: do you use an online platform such as Moodle or a traditional piece of paper?

I have around 60 students and for this reason I could use Moodle, but I'm concerned about the possibility of cheating (are students with a phone or a PC connected to Internet tempted to give a quick glance at the possible answer or their notes?).

Thank you if someone wants to share his/her experience and suggestions on the matter.

Marina
