Dear All,
We are getting close to the total implementation of our TBL sessions for
the start of the Medical School. During a trial run, the question came
up about individual appeals.
Here is the scenario. Suppose one in the group does not think that any
of the options are completely correct. The group, during the GRAT,
selects the correct response (as defined by the faculty member), but the
one individual either skipped the question or really didn't think any of
the answers were completely correct. Student has valid point about the
incompleteness of the response option. What can that student do to
perhaps get credit on the individual test for having understood the
question, but could not select among the options?
1. must group submit an appeal - and write a better response
option, for that one student to get credit in IRAT?
2. can individual submit an appeal - or at least meet with faculty
member to discuss issue (perhaps creating a learning opportunity for
further discussion at later session) and get credit for an answer on
IRAT on the basis of this individual appeal?
3. Can individuals suggest better way to present question - and get
credit - or should it be a group effort. If group got answer right -
how does group benefit from group appeal - extra points?
Your thoughts on this would be most appreciated.
Sandy
