Hi all,

I am not sure if I am qualified to comment on TBL or on teaching as I have very little experience.

I worked in Student Services for a while and from what I understand, this week is about 3 / 4 weeks since classes started, and this is typically a really rough time (psychologically) for students as the realization of the university course load hits them (regardless of which year they are in).

So, perhaps some time to ‘centre’ and guide the students could help?

There must be something in the air all over North America this week. I also had a student team score only 58% on a tRAT today. But, similar to Janet, this team score was higher than their individual scores. I have never had a team score so poorly on a tRAT. To put it in perspective the other teams scored from 80-95% on the tRAT. So just one team struggling with this section of the course.

Cheers

Neil

The same thing happened to me this week. The team scored 52%. As I was listening in on their discussion, I knew it was going to be a disaster. I was surprised at how badly it was going until I saw the individual scores. Students in this team scored between 30-50% on the individual portion so it's no surprise that they couldn't pull it together for the team part. I suspect they will have learned a lesson from this experience and will be better prepared next time.
