Erick and all:

For both audio and video (i.e. the latter pertaining to recording what is on the computer screen): I have used Audio augmented PowerPoints and streamed them using Impatica (which makes them much smaller, and will play on most devices, even the old slow phone modems in the early days of doing this!) Have used Camtasia, the screen capture (and audio capture program), although I found it cumbersome (some like it, some do not). Also, there are Webinar programs, like Adobe Connect Pro...to capture both audio and video (again , the latter being whatever you put on the computer screen).

For audio-only, Audacity is great (and free) software. Have used a Sony handheld/portable, digital recorder for this (Sony ICD-MX20), with a portable wireless Shure mic system I used to (and still sometimes do) lug around (or, used it at my desk so I did not have to be "tethered" to my computer). For classrooms already having the mic system in-place (mics in ceiling and at podium, so capture entire class discussion, too), just use Audacity.

As you can see, I am doing audio (and some video) Podcasting both "at my desk" and "live" in the classroom: A mixture works best. Audio Podcast along with a pdf file of the associated PowerPoint (Lecture notes in the Notes section of the pptx file), other material, seems to work the best.

Some of this is for Distance Ed .. which I have found helps with TBL in-the-classroom, too. Now if I could just figure out how to do more TBL in Distance Ed...

Hope this helps..

TBL-list,

I am contemplating dipping my toes in the podcasting creation pool (to spice up pre-class prep or post class clarification) and looking for suggestions. Any software programs suggestions or advice??

Thanks,

Erik
