TO: People on the TBL Listserv

During Larry Michaelsen's and my association over the years, we realized
there was a close connection between his ideas on TBL and my ideas on course
design. Knowing how to design your course well helps you understand the
need for a powerful teaching strategy like TBL and how it connects to other
parts of the design of the course.

Therefore I want to share some information (below) about an Annual National
Workshop on course design that Dee Fink & Associates has been offering for
the last several years.

If you can attend, I am sure you would find it valuable and that it would
enhance your ability to use a teaching strategy like TBL.

Thanks, Dee Fink

Dee Fink & Associates are offering their 4th Annual National Workshop on:

*“Designing Courses for Greater Student Engagement and*

*Better Student Learning**”
***

*
*

*May 20-22*, *2011
Minneapolis, MN*

This is a great workshop that gets better every year because we evaluate
carefully and make improvements.

*THE VALUE OF THIS WORKSHOP***

*1. This workshop is even better than our campus workshops because
participants have…*

   - *More Time*: We have 2.5 days, compared to 0.5 days on most campuses.

   - *More Feedback**:* Multiple members of Dee Fink & Associates are on
hand to give individualized feedback to participants.

*2. This is a “Doing” Workshop – not a seminar of talking heads!*

   - Participants spend over 50% of the workshop time “doing” course design:
creating their design, viewing the designs of others, getting feedback on
   their own design, etc.

*3. This workshop makes sense, especially during times of tight budgets.*

   - *Quantity Discount Available**:* We realize all colleges and
universities are facing tight budgets. That is why we are offering a
quantity discount again this year: We have *reduced workshop registration
25% per person* if the institution sends 4 or more participants.

   - *Great Investment**:* It is particularly important in tight budgetary
times to allocate limited funds strategically.

*The total cost of this workshop (travel, lodging, food, and conference
registration) is less than 3% of one year’s salary for most faculty members
– and the benefits will last the rest of their career!*

   - *Value**:* We believe this workshop will do more to make
participants *more
effective as teachers* than any other single event they can attend!

Here are comments from recent participants:

"Really, this is probably the best, most cohesive, well organized and
well-paced workshop I have ever attended."

"The workshop was *fantastic*! I have learned so much and had a wonderful
time. *Thank you*!!!"
