MAILING LISTS

In the "class decisions" handout, I gave a maximum for the Team Maintenance section of what I call Skill Development points - 25% out of the maximum of 200.  The maximum prevents them from placing all their "eggs in one basket" and devaluing the other activities which engage them with the course material.  This was after the class discussed the advantages of the percentage method vs. the team maintenance method.  The other categories of skill development points (Rats, team application exercises, and individually submitted homework) we didn't come to a conclusion, but a proposal was put forth for them to think about until today's class.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I've sent the students an email saying they can't do this, and that we will re-weight the grades on Thursday. Hopefully I haven't crushed their enthusiasm for TBL, but it was sounding worse and worse the more I talked to other faculty (and administrators) about it.

In this morning's session the class was just ending as they came to consensus on grading themselves 100% on peer evaluation. I told them they should sleep on it and we will confirm or revisit on Thursday morning. I'm inclined to let them try it, but I'm curious if anyone thinks that would be a mistake. One important note is that this seems to be a class of 99% varsity athletes.
