Dear colleagues,

I have been a big proponent of TBL for many years, but I have some discomfort about the emphasis on competition. My understanding is that competition, with its emphasis on comparison with others and external reinforcement, can actually diminish internal motivation for learning, especially long-term. (See, for example, the excellent and very readable review of research in the book "No Contest" by Alfie Kohn)

I am wondering how you all feel about this?

Looking forward to meeting many/some of you soon in Vancouver.

Jane Connor
