I teach introductory economics and am looking for similar materials. Eddy Chi recently introduced me to Carol Dwecks work on Growth Mindset.


I would greatly appreciate activities to incorporate into my classes. I believe this topic aligns very well with TBL, as much of the opposition to TBL is due to fear of looking bad in front of peers.

Subject: growth mindset activities, particularly addressing math and science fears

Hello TBL list members,

I have an intro bio course this fall that often has students enrolled who have negative attitudes toward math and varying experience levels. It is not uncommon to hear "I'm not good at math" from these students. Similarly, we have students that label themselves as not good at science. Math/science negativity seems like something we should address, just as we address the opposition to team work and flipped classrooms in our course with the excellent first-day TBL activities.

I am searching for an activity to introduce students to the idea of growth and fixed mindsets w.r.t. math and/or science. Do any of you have any materials that might be relevant?
