Hi

Attached is an IF-AT like excel document

I didn’t have a copy any more but the listserv archives did (I posted this back in 2006)

Hi

If you are already sending a word document

You can build a if-at like experience in an excel file....then password protect it before you give to students....you click on a choice....and the total score decrements by the correct amount if incorrect....4,2,1

I saw this probably 10 years ago at a school I was visiting.....i doubt I still have a copy...but will look on Monday

I tried something new this year for an in person class. Largely since I had a 50 minute class, I needed to adjust the I-RAT, T-RAT format.

So, using our platform (Springboard) students took the I-RAT before class on line (they usually had a 2 day window). I had true / false questions from the readings and a random selection of 10 would appear. I gave students 3 chances and took the AVERAGE of their tries. Then in class they do the normal T-RAT with the IF-AT cards (since they LOVE these – the groans and cheers are always fun to listen to).

It worked out really well and my evaluations were much better than in past classes. It also left enough time in the 50 minute class to do the T-RAT and discussion after.

Has anyone used adaptive mode RAT quizzes in Blackboard? I am especially interested in applying this to the tRAT in an online course. Presently I present each team with all ten questions and a simple Word document for them to select and record the first, second, and third choices for each of the ten questions. The ability to provide feedback for incorrect choices and penalties would better mimic the IF-AT cards.

Has anyone tried this and had success?

Thanks,

Lenore

Hi Phil,

We’ve been doing this for almost 3 years, in several courses (computer science), and it works perfectly well. We use adaptive mode quizzes, with penalties for failed choices, and project one question at a time in the screen, with scrambled order both for questions and answers.

Of course it helps if your wifi network does not allow for internet access (while allowing to access the local moodle installation).

As our computer science students are provided with a laptop, we also use to do iRATs using moodle quizzes.

Best regards,

Ernesto

Subject: question on a moodle facsimile to IF-AT forms

Hi all,

I am considering using moodle quizzes to simulate the IF-AT tRAT forms.

This seems easy to do technically.

  1. Set up as an adaptive quiz.
  2. Give feedback only on whether answers are correct or not after each attempt.
  3. Apply grade penalties on attempts after the first.

I am worried about giving student teams access to a tablet or smartphone during my closed-book, open-note quizzes.

I will have 10 teams and can easily move about the room to visually inspect device screens during the quizzes.

Has anyone tried doing the tRATs this way? What lessons did you learn?

Thank you,

Phil
