Jim,
I also drop the lowest iRAT score; that takes care of about 90% of the iRAT
absences. If the student has a good excuse for any additional iRAT
absences, I will drop the excused iRAT absence from the calculation and
they get the score on the iRATs that they actually completed (minus the low
score.) Students always get the tRAT score. If the team feels that the
person did not pull his or her weight because the student missed one or
more tRATs, the team can take that into consideration in the peer review.
This makes the students more accountable to the team -- which is what we
generally want.
