Hi Ron,
I'll suggest a couple of ideas, but others may have closer personal experience with this same problem.

1. Can you modify or combine the units you are teaching in a relevant way, such that you don't have to give a RAT every single Monday? This may minimize the students' impression that they're reading "all the time".

2. What information are you basing your concern upon? If you are seeing low RAT scores, indicating that the students aren't ready to do applications, could it be that the RAT questions are too difficult? If students are complaining about the reading load, but are performing well on the RATs - maybe there's nothing really wrong with how you're doing YOUR class.
Cheers,

Subject: Ways to Modify TBL

I'm concerned that my students are bombarded with too much reading from all their courses and are unable to adequately prep for TBL. Unlike other courses, my entire course depends on students reading their text. In TBL, reading is the foundation for all that follows.

So, how can I modify TBL? Student have very little to read for my class, but in the spectrum of all other classes, it's a ton of information. Currently, the class meets for 1 hr on Monday and 2 hours on Wed. The do iRATS/tRATS and discussion on Monday and then we have application exercises on Wednesday.

I'm looking for any suggestions about how to modify my class.

Thanks,
