Susan M. Hicks Award for Graduate Research on Eurasia
Applications are being accepted for the Susan M. Hicks Award for Graduate Research on Eurasia. All UBC Faculty of Arts graduate students planning to conduct research related to Eurasia, broadly defined as the regions of the former Soviet Union and neighbouring countries shaped by the legacy of state socialism, are eligible to apply for the award (normally $500-$1000). Applications for direct research expenses, especially field research, are preferred.
Applicants should submit a CV and a one page statement that outlines the project for which funding is sought. The statement should clearly indicate: 1) how the proposed project relates to the larger program of graduate study; 2) what the award would specifically support, e.g. airfare, supplies, etc.; 3) contact information for the applicant; and 4) contact information for the applicant’s graduate supervisor.
If you would like to learn more about the history of the Award or would like to contribute to it, please see the following link:  http://memorial.supporting.ubc.ca/susan-hicks/her-life-and-ties/

The 2017 award was made to Anastasia Rogova, a PhD student in the Anthropology Department, to support her research on the Russian-speaking diaspora in Toronto.

Please send submissions, as well as any inquiries, by **April 15** to Dr. Alexia Bloch at: [log in to unmask]
