Hi John, I typically work with teams of four, which has worked well in clinical social work education and we also typically use teams of 4 in child welfare workforce training here in Pennsylvania. Four learners bring enough resource to address assignments and there seems to be more even participation by team members. Anecdotally, I am hearing that many instructors are using smaller (4 or 5 person) teams in online learning settings. I have found that 3 tends to be more problematic. Two teams of 4 works well in TBL using typical facilitation techniques. Even a single team has been used, drawing on answers and arguments made by previous learners in the course.
