Hello all: I lead a unit of instructional designers to assist faculty members design, develop, and deliver courses online. I have been newly introduced to TBL and I wonder about the role of synchronous communication in TBL. What is its role and how much of a deal-breaker is it, if you are not able to provide a way for people to interact with each other in real time? Also, one of the main advantages of online learning is the flexibility it affords; you are not tied down by time. If TBL is diminished due to the absence of synchronicity, can it be implemented effectively online?
