Hi everyone,

I am putting together the syllabus for my fall course on Urbanism Theory in which I will be using TBL for the second time. In breaking down which items fall into which grading category, I feel like I have many things in the "Individual Performance Category" and very little in the "Team Performance Category." Here is how it breaks down now:

INDIVIDUAL:
I-RATs (6 per semester)
Blackboard Discussion (5 per semester on non-RAT weeks)
Midterm Exam
Final Analysis Presentation

TEAM:
T-RATs (6 per semester)

This is a graduate level course in Architecture that requires a research component, which I use place of a final exam. In the past, I had teams do this but it required a lot of out of class work. Results were generally good but of course participation, meetings outside class, etc. were issues. This year I'm trying to follow TBL more closely by having the "analysis presentation" as an individual element. I'm concerned, however, that this moves everything except for T-RATs into individual performance. We will be doing some Application Exercises in class on which the students will work as teams but I'm not planning to grade these - they are designed to help set up the individual analysis work by showing how the reading ideas can be applied to actual urban design situations.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
Nadia
