I am interested to hear if anyone has used TBL in design studios or other types of studio courses. I have begun using TBL in my architectural theory course and have used it to create design teams in my studio courses but am curious to figure out how/if the methods can be applied to a course that is process rather than content-oriented. Studio courses have a high number of contact hours (13/week) and the typical interaction method is one-on-one desk critiques in which the instructor meets with the student to discuss his/her project. Projects typically last anywhere from a few weeks to an entire semester and are meant to synthesize learning from a range of courses in addition to the studio. Students sometimes work with a partner or as part of a team but this is still the exception. I ask not only out of interest in improving my teaching but also because I do research into the power structures of the architectural profession. How pedagogy affects the profession, both historically and currently, is part of this work. Thanks, Nadia Nadia M.
