That is exactly what I learned.  My first class in my PhD program had assigned teams.  We had no idea why we were assigned to the team and it turned out one of the team members announced he wasn’t going to do anything more than type up the final project.  He didn’t even do that well. 

 

It still goes on.  My daughter just finished a class where they had assigned teams for the final project.  She called me complaining bitterly that no one in here group was working on the project.  The message is clear.  Trust no one.
