Yes integrating with blackboard might make sense We currently in an LMS selection cycle and will either be moving to Blackboard or Moodle in the next couple of years. Integration will happen...but wonıt be on our radar for another couple of years We rolled iPeer out to our entire campus last year with faculty administrators download class lists from the student information system and manually importing them The system is already integrated with on central authentication....but there is no live link to student registrations #################### We are about to do a summer of coding...so if you have feature suggestions (other than blackboard integration :-)....let us know Jim -- Jim Sibley Director Centre for Instructional Support Faculty of Applied Science University of British Columbia 2205-6250 Applied Science Lane Vancouver, BC Canada V6T 1Z4 Phone 604.822.9241 Fax 604.822.7006 Email: [log in to unmask] Web: http://cis.apsc.ubc.ca İ Copyright 2011, Jim Sibley, All rights reserved The information contained in this e-mail message and any attachments (collectively "message") is intended only for the personal and confidential use of the recipient (or recipients) named above. I have now put in a submission to my universityıs IT section to make it available on an extended trial for a dozen other lecturers this year with the view of using it University wide. They have a few concerns, the main one is that it is not integrated into our student system which uses the Blackboard platform. They feel that to make it available to everyone it would have to be integrated so it was populated with enrolled student names and used the same authentication system. Do you know is such a system is already available or is this something that we would have to build ourselves? There are also talking about what other options are available etc. I looked around and iPeer does what we need and I see no reason to pay a licence fee to some other product that may not be as good. If I had an idea of how many other universities were using it and who they were is would certainly add weight to my argument. Have you any idea? It is one of our major goals for 2.2, so no worries, we probably won't make the next 2.2 release unless this fix is in :-) We aim to keep everything backwards-compatible, so once this bug is fixed, all the evaluation released to students will just appear in their view, as if it's been working all along. The migration of 2.1 to 2.2 should present no problems, and keep all your data. If you're looking for a pre-view version with the fix, we can let you know the when code is turned in to the development tree (though, at that point it won't be as stable as the upcoming 2.2 release code). Hope this answers your questions, - Serge On Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 1:01 AM, Robyn Davidson <[log in to unmask]> wrote: Hi Serge I have used iPeer 2.1 successfully to conduct a peer assessment and am about to export the results into Excel and have a play them with so I can give the students some anonymous feedback as the students canıt get the results directly from iPeer. You said that version 2.2 had the bug fixed and was available from the download link which you gave me below. Can you tell me, if our IT people instantiated 2.2 would that work with the assessments we already have from 2.1, so the students could just login and see their results. I am just trying to get some inside knowledge here before I talk to our IT people, any suggestions you can give me would be much appreciated. Iıd really like my students to be able to see the results visually through iPeer if possible. I've just tested them on the Sandbox Server with iPeer 2.1, and confirmed that the groups are not filled just like you said. The reason for this is interesting: it's iPeer's quirks with student numbers and student usernames. It's not sure if they should be the same or not. To work around the issue, when importing students from the CSV file, students usernames should be the same as their student numbers, like in the example bellow (both underlined) 22928030, password123, 22928030, [log in to unmask], Sam, Badhan 78233046, pass5323123, 78233046, [log in to unmask], Jamille, Borromeo 39577051, psaswdrcD23, 39577051, [log in to unmask], Jordon, Cheung 68000058, password123, 68000058, [log in to unmask], David, Cliffe I'm sorry that the student import page doesn't stress this, I've been confused about it myself since I came onboard. From the code it looks like previous developers disagreed on which way it should be :-) But the more I look at it, the more I'm sure. So, I would suggest to make all your CSV to have your student's usernames be their student numbers, and let them log in with their student numbers as well. Using new CSV files, please re-import your students, and then your groups. This should fix the issue :-) The second problem you are having, with released comments to students, has to do with a known bug, which my colleague fixed for the next iPeer release. However, the fix is not available yet in the stable iPeer versions. It is in our development tree (the SVN version at http://burrito.olt.ubc.ca/trac/wiki/download), which your IT department could instantiate for you. Though, seeing that they don't like untested code (a good practice, actually :-) it might not be available to you for the next month or so untill we make iPeer 2.2 available. So, for now, the students can't see each other's evaluations, only instructors can. Thank you for your trust that iPeer will save you a lot of work, we sure hope it does! :-) Please let us know if there are any more difficulties, since it'll help us fix bugs. - Serge. We downloaded version 2.1 and have it running on a server at my institution (Adelaide University in Australia). Initially our IT people were not keen to install anything they had not thoroughly test etc on their server. Unfortunately it is accessible only from the internal network, so I can't even work on it from home, let alone give you access so you can see what is happening. Is it possible to use an instance on one of your servers so that I know it is at least configured correctly? After having trouble uploading with my large class I made two small files with just 4 students and 1 group and I played around with them. These are attached. I used them in your sand box just now and the students upload all right - I've added them to the course COMP 101 101. Then I uploaded the groups, as you will see it has made the group called "The Boys" but not assigned the students to the group. If you assigened students to a group (I assume this is your test in "Course2") and it worked then hopefully it is something simple with the layout of my csv file. I also have another problem. Yesterday, with my small testing class I manually assigned the students, created the evaluations (one of each type) and then logged in as the students and did the evaluations. All is working well except after I had reviewed all the evaluations and released all results and comments as the instructor, then logged back in as a student, the student could not see the results. It said results and comments not yet released. Any clues why this may be? I am very grateful of any help you can give me. This looks like wonderful software and will save me (and my colleagues) many hours and provide so much better feedback to the students if we can get it working correctly. By the way, I'm not sure who Jim got me confused with, but I am not a gentleman, I am a lady :) Well, that teaches me to be careful about the emails I forward ! :-) > > > > Kind regards > Robyn > > > > > > On 9/09/2010 6:56 AM, Serge Okon wrote: > Hello, this is Serge, I'm a student developer working on iPeer at UBC. > > Sorry to hear you're having troubles with the system, but I think we can trace > them down. > > > > I've just tested the group import via CSV on our Sandbox server, > (http://ipeerverf.olt.ubc.ca, described in > http://burrito.olt.ubc.ca/trac/wiki/SandBox).
