Hello all My TBL course is mandatory for approximately 375 students across 5 different dental health professions. The teams are interprofessionally balanced for the 5 professions. We are introducing a new module this year about disabilities, mainly to expose our health care trainees to the potential challenges faced by those with various types of disability. That, and the recent media focus on Autism spectrum disorder and Aspergers syndrome, has prompted me to consider how prepared TBL student teams are in dealing with the occasional team member who may in fact have Aspergers and who may have communication or social difficulties in the team situation. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in teaching students specifically about dealing with individual differences within teams or, more specifically, about how to support a team member who is having social difficulties within group situations, as do some people with Aspergers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
