Hi Michael, (Tim, Jim and all),
Even though I am not a "new-convert," like the instructor that you quoted, I love TBL because so many of the bumps along the way to learning are self correcting.  That is, when it is designed properly. I now have 145 teachers in my classroom, who pull together toward the same goal. I'm extremely grateful for the wonderful ideas and thoroughly tested instructional design by Larry Michaelsen, and then the added experience, benefits and creativity from all of you on this list.  It has enriched my experience as a teacher as well as the experience of my students.  You might be able to tell that we are getting to the very sweet part of the semester where the teams are really clicking :).   It has turned my role into being like an orchestra conductor rather than the one woman show.  Everyone is actively involved in the process of teaching and learning and through that, everyone benefits.
With much appreciation,
Holly

Gang,

As the term comes screeching to a close, I thought it might be nice to share an out-of-the-blue e-mail I just got from a first-time TBL user:

"Dear Michael,
I loved the team evaluations. Students were very tactful and funny. It doesn't get any better when a student tells another student that they need to come to class more often!"

I know, it's nothing earth-shattering for those of us in the TBL world, but amidst all the grind and groan of the usual resistance, sometimes the quiet but cheerful energy of the newly-converted can put a little spring back into one's step.
