hi,
I currently use Ipeer and remember having trouble setting it up.  Any way, the reason I am writing is to let you know that I recently contacted Jim Sibley about an Ipeer matter and he told me to look at WebPA
http://webpaproject.lboro.ac.uk/

I am not using it this semester but will probably make the switch in Spring 2010.

Cheers!

Hello fellow team-based learning faculty,

We are trying to get ipeer 2.0 setup on our local server but our IT person is new to mySQL & PHP and he needs some help in getting ipeer installed and setup. All the ipeer documentation is for older versions (before the mySQL & PHP code rewrite) & the developer said there are no funds to provide installation support at this time.

Have any of you gone thorough the install and setup process and are willing to spend a bit of time working with our IT person? He is super sharp and great to work with, just needs a bit of guidance. If you are willing please email me directly the best contact info for you (both email and phone would be helpful).

WebP (http://webpaos.lboro.ac.uk/) is another peer feedback program that was recommended, but it doesn't seem to allow for written comments, which I think can be very helpful for students to know what to do differently in the future.

Thanks!!

Hi,

I've contacted the developer to see if they can give me a hand with this setup. The instructions is for version 1.0 and we are trying to setup 2.0

It require MySQL and PHP and that is where the problem for the install is. I'll help you guys out by looking at it next week. I'm officially off next week to deal with some personal issue, but I should have some time to take a look at it. MySQL and PHP which is required for ipeer to work are new to me on Windows so it is not a slam dunk because those setups are a bit complicated.

Jim and others, re: paper scanners:

Am curious as to why scanners are being used rather than clickers? Pros and cons? We, for the first time last spring, used the "homework" feature (i.e. students enter their RAT answers during class as an in-class homework) of the PRS Response clicker system, and it works great, in a class of 50-students. Instant grading by the computer, and a gradebook produced automatically in Excel format. Also, no Departmental/teaching budget cost: Students already have the clickers, because they are being used on campus in the larger general ed courses (like chemistry).

Re: Inexpensive Scoring Machine

The Apperson scanner are inexpensive and work great.....we can easily scan
160 tests while the students are doing the team test (probably could score
500-600 in the time)

I like that you don't have to attach it to a computer in class....we print
tally and item analysis cards right after scanning and have the aggregate
results to inform our mini-lecture....and office rescans the forms later to
generate the excel

I just order my fifth scanner for my Faculty

Haven't tried their new Apperson scanner with a feeder....would be more
convenient...but uses different forms than the Advantage scanners I already
have
