Jim and all:

Regarding the social side of the scratch-off... great point. I have also
learned, though, that on-line, distance students are at times even more
social than those in-class! So, how to engage them in a TBL type
experience, with scratch-off forms, remains a challenge.

Dan Robinson at UT Austin does indeed have a PC version of IF-AT

Guess we could have at least one student per team bring a laptop.....hope
our wireless network can take it

The most popular clicker...iClicker has no mechanism for feedback....so
they couldn’t be tweaked to do this

I still think there is something fun, social, engaging with the scratch
off....that might be lost on a computer :-)

Me, too, wishing there was an IF AT in an electronic form... for use
both with clickers in class, and especially for use in on-line,
distance ed teaching (am teaching a distance ed course, and would
like to try TBL in that realm).

We use clickers too and find it great.

What I would now like is an electronic IF-AT process that can use the
clickers - instant feedback, variable scoring, and able to adjust
according to the actual answers that we have - rather than doing a
coding sheet for the various forms.

Jim and others, re: paper scanners:

Am curious as to why scanners are being used rather than clickers?
      Pros
and cons? We, for the first time last spring, used the "homework"
feature (i.e. students enter their RAT answers during class as an
      in-class
homework) of the PRS Response clicker system, and it works great, in
      a
class of 50-students. Instant grading by the computer, and a
      gradebook
produced automatically in Excel format. Also, no
      Departmental/teaching
budget cost: Students already have the clickers, because they are
      being
used on campus in the larger general ed courses (like chemistry).

The Apperson scanner are inexpensive and work great.....we can easily
      scan
160 tests while the students are doing the team test (probably could
      score
      500-600 in the time)

I like that you don't have to attach it to a computer in class....we
      print
tally and item analysis cards right after scanning and have the
      aggregate
results to inform our mini-lecture....and office rescans the forms
      later to
      generate the excel

I just order my fifth scanner for my Faculty

Haven't tried their new Apperson scanner with a feeder....would be
      more
convenient...but uses different forms than the Advantage scanners I
      already
      have
