Recommend you review Hersey-Blanchard's situational leadership model. Once you have determined what level of readiness your students are at, you can then apply the appropriate leadership style --which may include giving them very specific directions.

Hello everybody,

I am experiencing a minor(?) problem.  I teach HS physics to freshmen.  We are currently working on a case that should include a couple of laboratories for concept understanding.  They seem to be resisting performing the labs, even with strong suggestions from me.  Class time is not a problem; we meet 3 times a week with two 90 minute classes each week.  Short of giving them  specific laboratory directions, how can I impress upon them that they need the lab work?
