Essential Functions 
Play a key role in support of university teaching by working directly with teachers to help them improve their practice and experience in the classroom. Working collaboratively and responsively, this position will conduct confidential consultations, classroom observations and class interviews (SGIDs), and review instructional materials and class-instructor survey (CIS) data to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth in the practice of consultation clients. Consult with university administration, faculty, and staff in the areas of: instructional development; the cognitive, motivational, and social dimensions of college student learning; evidence-based teaching; effective practices in the use of technology for instruction; and the state of current educational research literature. Lead and support collaborations with units across campus to support the integration of effective teaching and learning practices in as many contexts as possible. These efforts will involve working with faculty, graduate students, and the CTL's assessment and technology teams to frame systematic research around instructional development activities. The Instructional Consultant will also assist in the organization of data collection and analysis as well as writing reports and presenting findings. Assist in other initiatives with the goal of advancing learner-centered teaching inside and outside the University of Texas at Austin. 

Required qualifications 
Completed Ph.D in Instructional Design, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, OR a completed Ph.D. in another field with 2 years of experience in faculty/instructional development. Experience teaching as instructor-of-record at the college level. Knowledge of instructional design models, strategies, and techniques. Knowledge of student learning processes and implications for the development of effective instruction. Demonstrated interest in how technology can be used to improve or transform instruction in various ways. Ability to diagnose instructional needs, and design appropriate instructional experiences that may or may not use technology. Ability to develop effective instructional materials for a variety of learning tasks, student characteristics, disciplines, and learning environments. Experience simultaneously coordinating several projects involving different groups of people. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Comprehensive knowledge of the Instructional design process. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. 

Preferred Qualifications 
Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, STEM background at the Bachelor's or Master's level, and 2 years of faculty/instructional development experience. Experience successfully consulting with faculty on their teaching one-on-one, across more than one academic term. Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats. Experience designing, conducting, publishing and presenting educational research. Experience delivering active-learning workshops for faculty and graduate students. Knowledge of current best practices in assessment and instructional technology at the college level. Knowledge of current best practices in faculty/educational development and pedagogy at the college level. Sensitivity to teaching and learning needs at a major research university.
