Dear Colleagues,

Medical Science Educator, the journal of the International Association of Medical Science Educators IAMSE, is planning to publish two special journal sections dedicated to the topic of “Competencies, Milestones, and Entrustable Professional Activities.” In these sections, the journal would like to explore the way competencies and EPA’s are being used in curricula by learning what institutions are doing in this field.

Competency based education has become an important strategy in medical and nursing school clinical curricula and it has become the basis for developing interprofessional education and practice. However, it appears to be difficult to integrate competencies into clinical training programs and to accurately assess them. For this assessment, the concept of milestones and entrustable professional activities has been developed as a tool for educators to make competency-based decisions. These new approaches are being used in the classroom, the clinical training environment, and in continuing medical education.

We are currently soliciting article submissions on this topic and we welcome contributions in the format of Short Communication, Original Research, Monograph or Commentary. See our website www.medicalscienceeducator.org<[log in to unmask]&job=2167338&ymlink=4333188&finalurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emedicalscienceeducator%2Eorg" target="_blank">http:[log in to unmask]&job=2167338&ymlink=4333188&finalurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emedicalscienceeducator%2Eorg> for a more detailed description of these article types. All submissions will be peer-reviewed in our regular review process. Accepted manuscripts will be clustered together into a special section in the issues 26(3) and 26(4), or will be published in one of the regular issues afterwards.

Manuscripts to be considered for these sections have to be submitted by February 15th, 2016 through our online submission system at www.medicalscienceeducator.org. In your cover letter, please refer to the topic “Competencies” to indicate that you would like to be included in one of these special sections. See our journal website for the Instructions for Authors.

I look forward to receiving your submissions.

Peter GM de Jong, PhD

Editor-in-Chief
