Mary Anne,

The team tests aren't a problem. As for the individual tests, depends
on the nature of the disability. I've had a couple of visually impaired
students who needed large type tests -- which is a bit of work -- but,
not that big a problem. In a couple of cases, they have needed a
"reader," but were able to do the test in an adjacent room or hallway --
and were very helpful and active during the team RATs. With those who
need extra time, it works out pretty well in most cases to have the
student start the test early -- either in my office or in the classroom.
That way, they are ready for the team test. I have, however, noticed
something curious. Probably less than a third of those who are eligible
to have extended time have actually used it. In the majority of cases,
they say, "Let me try the first one with the rest of the group" and end
up doing just fine.

Hi,
We're implementing team-based learning (with IFATs etc.) in
several of our classes, and a question has come up. How do you handle
students with learning disabilities, those who are allowed extra time
(typically twice as long) to take the actual exams?
        Thanks -
