Hi. I used still another approach: I bought scratch off stickers from Amazon. I printed my own cards (with a star in the bubble for the right answer). The hardest part was putting the stickers over the answer bubbles and trying to have the answer bubble rows stay straight. I liked being able to put my questions in an order that made sense.

Hi,

For small workshops, I've made my own "IF-AT cards" by printing bubble sheets on paper then using color changing magic markers (https://www.amazon.com/ALEX-Toys-Artist-Changing-Markers/dp/B000BR4JO0). You prep the answer sheet by coloring in the correct answer bubble with the invisible magic marker. I have a box in the corner where half of it is colored with the invisible marker, and the other half is not. I tell the students at the start of the TRAT to use their magic marker to color in the entire box so they know which color to look for as the correct answer.

Participants really like it - they think it's like magic and ask whether I have special paper (no, it's regular paper). And, it's nice because you can have the answers in whatever order you want - you don't need to match them to a specific key. The downside is that you have to make them yourself - which isn't difficult, but takes time, and you need to make sure all your answer sheets are colored in correctly.

Hope this helps.

Amy

PS

If a faculty member truly has this limitation...I would suggest to reach out to this listserv...for some charitable donations of cards...

I personally have sent cards all over the world from time to time....I will keep saying YES till someday when I will need to say NO

If we get this need better articulated then all we would need to do is spin up a foundation to make things like this happen...for those in need

I would be interested in helping this happen if we got the need more clearly articulated

Hi

I only have seen some IF-AT alternatives with digital tech....a locked excel sheet being the simplest, moodle quizzes also pretty simple

If you were to come up with a "simple" alternative that is paper-based....it would almost certainly infringe on the IF-AT patent

Subject: alternative to IF-AT/digital technology for tRATs?

I facilitated a workshop yesterday and introduced TBL. I used IF-AT cards for the tRAT, and had a question from a faculty member from Columbia. He asked:
"Has somebody devised a strategy to do RAT that does not depend at all on IFAT cards or on digital technology? It would be great to share the idea with teachers abroad, who wouldn’t have access to the cards.”
By “access,” he means that there are not funds to support ordering these. They are looking for something very simple and inexpensive. Does anyone have effective strategies that they have used for tRATs that could be used by faculty anticipating this limitation?

Thanks in advance,
Rebecca
